From Personal Determination to a Scalable Model of Care

Amy O’Dell Discusses Jacob’s Ladder Group’s Scalable Model Of Care On Narwhal Capital Management’s Morning Market Briefing

Amy O’Dell Shares the Story and Future of The Jacob’s Ladder Group on Narwhal Capital Management’s Morning Market Briefing

Amy O’Dell, Founder and CEO of The Jacob’s Ladder Group, recently joined Tom Russell and Ben Nye of Narwhal Capital Management on The Morning Market Briefing to share the story behind Jacob’s Ladder — and to discuss how individuals, families, professionals, and organizations can engage with and support its mission as a nonprofit.

A Foundation Built on Determination

Founded in 1998 in Roswell, Georgia, Jacob’s Ladder began with a refusal to accept limited expectations when conventional systems offered few answers. Faced with a discouraging prognosis for her son, Amy O’Dell pursued solutions that addressed the whole person — neurological, physiological, relational, and developmental.

What emerged from that search is now a nationally recognized therapeutic and educational organization serving individuals across the lifespan with neurodevelopmental challenges through its unique Interpersonal Whole-Brain Model of Care® (IWBMC™) — a comprehensive framework that integrates neuroscience, relationship-based intervention, individualized programming, and consistent implementation.

Over more than 30 years, the organization has supported thousands of individuals and families while refining a model designed to address complex needs that often fall outside traditional approaches. Today, The Jacob’s Ladder Group is recognized as a leader in therapeutic and educational care for neurodiverse individuals, serving children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of developmental profiles and needs.

A Continuum of Care — Wherever Families Are

During the interview, Amy outlined how the organization has expanded beyond a single campus into a multi-entity system designed to support families, professionals, and institutions — regardless of location.

The Jacob’s Ladder Group services include:

  • Specialized therapeutic schooling from Pre-K through 12th grade
  • Individualized programs tailored to each person’s neurological profile
  • Comprehensive evaluations that inform personalized care plans
  • Caregiver and professional training
  • Resources that support progress at home, school, and in the community

Crucially, this work is no longer confined to one physical location.

Through the Ascend Training Institute, professionals and organizations can receive formal education in the IWBMC™ framework, equipping them to deliver high-quality care within their own settings.

Through the AHAVA digital platform, families and providers can access evaluation tools, implementation guidance, and ongoing support — enabling individualized care plans to be carried out anywhere in the world.

Together, these entities allow The Jacob’s Ladder Group to extend its impact far beyond its campuses, ensuring that support is not limited by geography, access to specialty programs, or local resources.

A Nonprofit Powered by Partnership

The conversation also underscored a central reality: The Jacob’s Ladder Group’s work is sustained through partnership.

As a nonprofit, the organization relies on the generosity, collaboration, and advocacy of individuals, foundations, and community partners who believe that every person deserves access to meaningful, individualized care — regardless of diagnosis or circumstance.

Amy noted that support can take many forms, including:

  • Financial contributions that sustain programs and expand access
  • Awareness and advocacy that connect families with needed resources
  • Community and corporate partnerships
  • Professional collaboration across disciplines
  • Sharing information with families who may benefit

Each form of engagement strengthens the organization’s capacity to serve families who often arrive after exhausting other options and searching for a path forward.

Hope as Practice

What began as one family’s journey has grown into a framework that has transformed thousands of lives—and continues to grow as professionals, donors, and advocates choose to step in and stand alongside the mission. At The Jacob’s Ladder Group, hope is not theoretical. It is practiced daily. Transformation is not promised — it is pursued with rigor, care, and consistency. And community, in all its forms, makes it possible.

We extend our sincere thanks to Tom Russell and Ben Nye of Narwhal Capital Management for the opportunity to share this story on The Morning Market Briefing and for helping introduce The Jacob’s Ladder Group’s work to a broader audience.
