From “Impossible” to Incredible: Jeremy’s Journey Becomes a Documentary
In 2014, Jeremy came to us after he went into cardiac arrest while playing soccer, resulting in a traumatic brain injury. Medical professionals provided a grim prognosis with little to no hope for recovery. Today, Jeremy is bicycling through Paris and working in the restaurant industry. His remarkable recovery through our Interpersonal Whole-Brain Model of Care® (IWBMC™) is now being documented by Emmy-winning Fox 5 Atlanta News journalist Lori Geary.
It began on a competitive soccer field where Jeremy, a brilliant high school student and athlete, collapsed in full cardiac arrest. After failed resuscitation attempts on the field, he was pronounced unresponsive. Only at the hospital did the medical staff manage to revive him, but Jeremy remained in a coma for an extended period.
Lori Geary recently visited our Roswell campus to film segments for an upcoming documentary on Jeremy’s journey. Geary interviewed our Founder and CEO, Amy O’Dell, about how our revolutionary Interpersonal Whole-Brain Model of Care® (IWBMC™) provided the framework for Jeremy’s remarkable recovery.
When Jeremy’s family first brought him to us, he had essentially lost everything. He had no language skills—not even his ABCs. He couldn’t identify his parents. Physically, he struggled to walk without support. This once-vibrant young man was literally starting over.
“We didn’t think about anybody else. Just how is he presenting and what does he need,” explains Amy O’Dell, founder.
Applying our Interpersonal Whole-Brain Model of Care®, our team comprehensively assessed Jeremy’s unique situation, creating a customized rehabilitation plan based solely on his specific needs. We trained local and international providers, even sending team members to Hong Kong, where Jeremy’s family lived. Our IWBMC™ Evaluators specialists worked closely with local providers, reviewing videos of Jeremy’s progress and adjusting his program accordingly.
“If one person can achieve such a transformation, why not believe all people can? Everyone deserves that chance.”
– Amy O’Dell
We worked diligently with Jeremy and his support network for five dedicated years. The results were nothing short of miraculous. Jeremy gradually regained all functionality. He returned to school, secured employment in the restaurant industry, and even returned to competitive sports. Videos show him confidently bicycling through the streets of Paris—a testament to human resilience when given the right support.
“They had already maxed out anything that the traditional offerings had to offer for someone coming out of a complex coma,” Amy O’Dell shares.
Jeremy’s transformation was so remarkable that it caught the attention of journalist Lori Geary, who is now creating a documentary of his journey. The documentary crew has already filmed at our Roswell campus, interviewing founder and CEO Amy O’Dell about the science behind our IWBMC™ approach and how it facilitates such profound recoveries.
His journey demonstrates the power of personalized, persistent intervention. When traditional rehabilitation options had reached their limits, our specialized approach continued to unlock his potential.
“If one person can achieve such a transformation, why not believe all people can? Everyone deserves that chance,” reflects O’Dell.
As we witness lives like Jeremy’s being completely transformed, we’re reminded that behind every success story are countless hours of dedicated work. But the reward—a life reclaimed and renewed—makes every effort worthwhile.
