Overcoming Communication Challenges
When Robin started at Jacob’s Ladder, communication, and sensory issues were her most significant hurdles. Minimally vocal and easily overwhelmed by everyday sensory experiences, even small tasks like putting on shoes or standing in line could lead to meltdowns. Her communication device was a vital tool, but she relied on ongoing guidance to use it, and she could only say simple words like “play,” “eat,” or “finished.”
A Breakthrough in Expression
Seven months later, Robin has made incredible strides because of the Interpersonal Whole-Brain Model of Care® (IWBMC™). Today, she uses more complex language on her device, allowing her to express herself more fully. In one recent session, she proudly created the phrase, “I feel happy,” showing her growing ability to connect and communicate. Robin has even begun using her keyboard to spell words, a significant milestone that has helped her feel more in control of her world.

Gaining Independence and Confidence
Her progress isn’t just about words. The sensory challenges that once defined her day are now more manageable. Robin, who once struggled with touch and other sensory inputs, is now more comfortable in everyday activities like dressing and self-care. Her parents see this as a genuine breakthrough, sharing, “What we had faith in happening at home is now happening in real life because of Jacob’s Ladder,” said her father. “Small things like dressing, putting on shoes, and self-care give you confidence that your child will be okay in the future.”
A Life-Changing Journey
Robin’s journey is a testament to the power of tailored support and the incredible potential of children with neurodevelopmental disorders. As her father shared, “Where we only had faith before, now we see evidence, and our hope is so strong that Robin will be able to reach her potential.” With the right tools and guidance, Robin is confidently reaching that potential—one joyful step at a time. At Jacob’s Ladder, we believe every child deserves the chance to flourish. Robin’s story is a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when hope, support, and progress come together.
